Factors for Choosing a Drop Spot
Where you land determines the first 5 minutes of your match and often affects the entire game. Your ideal landing spot depends on several factors:
- Plane flight path — Locations directly under the flight path attract more players. Landing perpendicular to the path gives you quieter drops.
- Loot density — Major named locations have more buildings and better loot, but also more competition. Smaller compounds are safer but offer fewer items.
- Vehicle spawns — If you land far from the first circle, you need a vehicle nearby. Check known vehicle spawn locations on the map.
- Your goal — Want to practice combat? Hot drop. Want to place top 10? Land safe and rotate. Want a balance? Choose a mid-tier location.
- Circle position — If the first circle is visible before you jump (it sometimes appears on the plane), landing inside or near it saves you a dangerous rotation.
Tip
While parachuting, use free-look (Alt) to count how many other players are dropping to your location. If more than 2–3 others are coming, be ready for immediate combat or divert to a nearby backup spot.
Hot Drop Locations
Hot drops are high-risk, high-reward locations where many players land. You will either come out fully looted with several kills or die in the first minute. These are great for improving your combat skills.
School / Apartments / Rozhok
The School complex is the most iconic hot drop in PUBG history. School itself is a two-story building with open interior, apartments is the multi-building complex to the north, and Rozhok is the town to the northeast. Together they form a massive combat zone.
- Expect 5–15 players landing here when the plane flies nearby.
- School has excellent loot density but is a death trap with its open layout and multiple entry points.
- Apartments is slightly safer with more rooms and loot spread across multiple buildings.
- The player who gets a weapon first usually controls the area. Land on weapon spawns, not rooftops.
Pochinki
A dense town in the center of Erangel with high loot density across many compounds. Pochinki is perfect for players who want both loot and fights without the pure chaos of School.
- Typically 4–10 players. The number of buildings means you can usually find a weapon before fighting.
- Center-map position means you rarely need a long rotation to the first circle.
- Compound-to-compound fighting with lots of cover. Good for practicing peek-and-shoot mechanics.
- Clear the town systematically from one edge to the other instead of running into the center.
Bootcamp
The ultimate hot drop on Sanhok. A military compound in the center of the map with the highest loot density on the entire island. Fast, brutal, and chaotic.
- Easily the busiest drop on Sanhok. Expect 8–20 players in a match.
- The central two-story building has the best loot. Landing on the roof and working downward is the standard play.
- Fights happen at point-blank range. Shotguns and SMGs are more useful here than ARs in the first 30 seconds.
- Listen for footsteps above and below you. Vertical audio is critical in multi-story structures.
Pecado
Miramar's answer to School. A small city in the center of the map featuring the Casino, Arena, and surrounding buildings. The Casino in particular is a multi-level deathtrap with incredible loot.
- The Casino has some of the best loot density in the entire game. Multiple floors, balconies, and roof access.
- The Arena (boxing ring building) is another popular drop. Lots of loot in a compact space.
- Miramar's terrain means players rotating out of Pecado have excellent ridge cover nearby.
- Less popular than Erangel hot drops overall, so the player count is usually 3–8.
Mid-Tier Drop Locations
Mid-tier drops offer solid loot with moderate competition. You will usually fight 1–3 teams but have enough buildings to get a weapon before the first encounter. These are the best spots for ranked play.
Erangel Mid-Tier Spots
- Georgopol containers — High loot density in the shipping container area. Usually 1–2 other teams.
- Yasnaya Polyana — Large city with enough loot for 2–3 squads to spread out. The church and school buildings are the best.
- Mylta Power — Excellent loot in a compact area. The tall building provides overwatch of the surrounding area.
- Prison — Good loot, isolated location. The downside is it is often far from the first circle.
Miramar Mid-Tier Spots
- San Martin — Central location with good buildings. Often contested by 2–3 teams.
- Power Grid — High loot density, relatively isolated. Good vehicle spawns nearby.
- Water Treatment — Compact area with military-grade loot. Watch for players on the elevated walkways.
Sanhok Mid-Tier Spots
- Ruins — Ancient temple area with excellent loot and natural cover from the terrain.
- Paradise Resort — Good loot, slightly less contested than Bootcamp. Multiple buildings to spread across.
- Pai Nan — Southern coastal town with reliable loot. Often overlooked when the plane flies north.
Safe Drop Locations
Safe drops are remote areas where you are unlikely to encounter other players. The tradeoff is lower loot density and a potentially long rotation to the circle. These are ideal for beginners learning the game or players who prioritize survival in ranked.
Safe Drop Strategy
- Drop perpendicular to the flight path. The farther you are from the plane's line, the fewer players will be near you.
- Target clusters of 4–6 buildings that are not named locations. These unnamed compounds often have enough loot for one player or duo.
- Secure a vehicle immediately. When dropping far from the center, a vehicle is essential. Land near a known vehicle spawn and drive to a loot area.
- Loot efficiently and rotate early. Do not spend 10 minutes looting every house. Grab essentials and start moving toward the zone before the blue closes.
Some reliable safe drops on Erangel: Zharki (northwest corner), Stalber (northeast), Primorsk (south coast), and Novorepnoye (south east, container area has great loot). On Miramar: Alcantara, La Cobreria, and Los Higos are typically empty.
Tip
Even at safe drops, always land as if someone else is there. Clear buildings before looting, listen for footsteps, and check your surroundings. One surprise enemy at a "safe" drop has ended many matches.
